Formerly known as Hospice East Rand, and deeply rooted in the community since 1986.
East Rand Palliative Care, deeply rooted in our community since 1986, has evolved to more accurately reflect the breadth of care and support we offer. Formerly known as Hospice East Rand, our new name underscores our dedication to providing specialised care for individuals and families confronting the challenges of serious illness. As a prominent member of the Association of Palliative Care Centres of South Africa (APCC) and accredited by the Council for Health Services Accreditation of South Africa (COHSASA), our pledge to deliver exceptional palliative care remains steadfast.
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for our patients diagnosed with a life-threatening illness from the moment of diagnosis, through all phases of treatment, and, when necessary, during end-of-life care. We approach this mission with a comprehensive strategy aimed at alleviating suffering, managing pain, and addressing the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of our patients and their families. Recognising the journey of life and the naturalness of its conclusion, we offer our support without the intent to hasten or delay death.
Emphasising the importance of psychological and spiritual well-being, we provide emotional support and counselling to both patients and their loved ones. We foster an atmosphere of open communication and strict confidentiality, encouraging the sharing of feelings and concerns as a privileged exchange.
Our collaborative team, consisting of medical doctors, nursing sisters, care workers, social workers, and volunteer caregivers, ensures that comprehensive support is available in the comfort of the patient’s home. We maintain the highest standards of palliative care, in line with global practices, through thorough screening and training of all staff and volunteers who interact directly with our patients and families.
We are proud to serve a broad area from Bedfordview, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Daveyton, Duduza, Edenvale, Germiston, Heidelberg, Kempton Park, KwaThema, Leondale, Nigel, Springs, Spruitview, Tsakane to Vosloorus. Each town has its own dedicated nursing staff to ensure hands on caring within these communities.
Our commitment extends beyond immediate care, offering bereavement counselling and emotional support services to families, assisting them through their grief and beyond. At East Rand Palliative Care, we are more than a provider of medical services; we are a partner in your healthcare journey, offering unwavering support from diagnosis through every stage of a life threatening illness, to end of life and into the period of mourning.
