Community Spirit Shines at St Benedict’s Bring-a-Thing Fundraiser

The staff, learners, and parents of St Benedict’s have once again demonstrated their unwavering support for East Rand Palliative Care through their recent Bring-a-Thing initiative.

Organised as part of the school’s Spring Clean campaign, the day brought in generous donations of pre-loved goods from clothing and books to household items all collected in aid of East Rand Palliative Care’s charity shops. These shops play a vital role in raising funds to support individuals and families facing life-threatening illnesses.

But the day was about more than just donations. It gave the East Rand Palliative Care team the opportunity to engage with the St Benedict’s community, sharing more about the organisation’s mission and the support services it provides. Conversations sparked curiosity and compassion, with many stopping to learn how East Rand Palliative Care supports patients with not only pain and symptom management, but emotional and spiritual care too.

The warm welcome and genuine interest shown by everyone at St Benedict’s was both uplifting and appreciated.

“We are incredibly grateful to the school for their kindness and generosity,” said Jonquil Siepman, Marketing and Media Liaison at East Rand Palliative Care. “Events like these are not just successful in terms of fundraising but hey open doors to meaningful conversations and raise awareness about the value of palliative care in our community.”

East Rand Palliative Care, formerly known as Hospice East Rand, continues to serve the East Rand community with dedication and compassion. The name may have changed, but the heart of the organisation remains the same: ensuring that no one has to face serious illness alone.
